Celebrate Project #75: El Pajal, Guatemala
We are thrilled to announce the completion of our 75th water project! For this milestone we got to partner with Healing Waters for the first time ever. Healing Waters is a great organization that tackles water projects that are in need of advanced engineering expertise. They have strong values and ensure sanitation education and sustainability.
The project we decided to partner with them on was in El Pajal, Guatemala. This community had never had access to clean water before. They would go days without drinking water and out of desperation were forced to drink the little water they could find knowing very well that it would make them sick.
El Pajal sits at 900m elevation and their water source is about 3km down the mountain. With Healing Waters expertise they were able to figure out a way to bring the water up the mountain using 100% solar power. Once the water was brought up, it would be purified and then the infrastructure would be built to pipe the purified water directly to household taps.
At the end of our two month campaign for Project #75 we were able to donate $40,000. This money will cover the costs of the infrastructure for 120-150 homes. In these homes, about is 600 people whose lives will change dramatically.
