Our Local Guide to Costa Rica, Ricardo from Origenes

Quick History

Without Ricardo, we’d be lost. Ricardo Mora is the most kind, vibrant and gracious Tico (native Costa Rican) we’ve had the pleasure to meet. He has been our fearless guide, translator and joke-maker for our adventures to Costa Rica. He’s made us feel welcome and truly delivered his passion for Costa Rica, Costa Rican coffee and Costa Rican people to us. We’re so thankful. He has competed on behalf of Costa Rica multiple times in World Barista Championships, and now he’s moved from Barista to Producer and Exporter.

Origenes, his farm, is located in the Brunca region of Costa Rica - which is growing in popularity, but is less well known that Tarrazu. Its location in the country is unique, providing rainfall from the coast that will help fill in the lack of rain recently caused by climate change. His hope and goal is to use his farm as a testing ground for non-native and native Costa Rican coffee varietals, that way he can educate and equip other area producers to grow specialty coffees that work in the Costa Rican climate. He is a fierce advocate and voice for the Costa Rican coffee community worldwide, and we’re so blessed to work with him.
